  • Position Title: Administrative Coordinator (Contract)
    Duration: Short term October - March
    Hourly Rate: $45 per hour
    Total Hours: 100 hours
    Location: Remote (occasional in-person meetings)
    Start Date: late September/ early October

    Overview:

    Black Youth Initiative (BYI) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Administrative Coordinator to provide administrative support to our grassroots organization focused on providing space for Black youth to develop community and sustain their capacity to thrive and experience joy. You will primarily support the Indigenous and Black Youth Community Action Grant that provides micro-grant for Indigenous and Black youth in BC. This contract position will require a proactive individual who is passionate about youth-led work, intercommunal solidarity, decolonization, equity, and resource redistribution. The Administrative Coordinator will assist with a range of administrative tasks, project coordination, and communication efforts to help BYI achieve its goals.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide general administrative support for the BYI’s Indigenous and Black Youth Community Action Grant.

    • Assist with coordinating and scheduling meetings.

    • Support the planning and execution of community events, workshops, and general outreach activities.

    • Assist with communication efforts, including drafting emails, writing blogs, newsletters, and other informational materials.

    • Collaborate with the team to track project milestones, deadlines, and deliverables.

    • Respond to inquiries and provide assistance to community members as needed.

    • Maintain and update program documentation, databases, and spreadsheets as needed.

    • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks and provide regular updates to the BYI team.

    Qualifications:

    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Previous administrative or project coordination experience, preferably in a community-based or nonprofit environment.

    • Passion for supporting Indigenous and Black youth and understanding of relevant cultural contexts.

    • Commitment to decolonization, intersectionality, and equity.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive).

    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

    • Appreciation and respect for cultural diversity, with an understanding of community outreach and engagement practices.

    • Previous experience with grant management support is an asset but not required.
